Sunrise to Sunset

This piece was initially inspired by a big band piece starting with a trombone solo. I re-imagined the sound as a French horn, conjuring up an image of light first glimpsed over imposing mountains. The sun proceeds to its zenith then descends to sunset as it extinguishes itself into the ocean.

The beginning French Horn solo is balanced by the trumpet section at the end. A ringing chime tone starts and ends the piece. Sections of the orchestra blend to form various choirs of sound, from huge fortes to delicate pianos sustaining the softest sounds that fade into silence.
