Memorial Prayer for the Departed

I had been in the process of writing a piece for choir and chamber orchestra when a close friend died. His burial was at Mount Sinai Memorial Park. Memorial Prayer for the Departed was one of the first prayers recited at his service. As we read the prayer, this piece formed in my mind. The final piece presented here is pretty much what I heard in my mind that day at the burial.
